Mornings along the shore of Lake Superior are always special. Especially when the lake is calm allowing for colorful reflections.
Morning light accenting the ice coated gorge along the shore of Lake Superior. Image captured with a drone. (No way I was going to climb down to get the shot!)
Although I have photographed this shack many times, I did so once again to take advantage of the stormy lake and light on the horizon. The shack in on Stoney Point Drive which is off Scenic Hwy 61 between Duluth and Two Harbors. The shack, once used by local commercial fishermen, is on private land, but the owners graciously allow free access for photographers and others who wish to view this piece of Lake Superior history.
After every good storm along the shore of Lake Superior, the spray from the waves coats everything in ice.
Like many places in the U.S., northern Minnesota is experiencing forest fires. Depending on the wind direction, Duluth may have nice, clear air or heavy smoke from the fires. On this morning the smoke was blowing down the lake toward Duluth providing us with unhealthy air quality. The upside to the smoke is beautiful sunrises and sunsets.
A slightly different angle at the same location.
After a long absence from my blog, I am finally getting back out to create some new images. I will make no excuses for my absence, it’s just how life has been of late. After all, I sure life has been a bit strange for all of us.
I find this image to be a bit of a jumble, not quite sure where to enter the image, The large rocks at the bottom are one option, the bright white is another, you may find your own way in.
I wanted to capture the view from the chasm in the rocks but, to do so would require me to go in the frigid waters of Lake Superior. My solution: use my drone to get down and shoot from about three feet above the water. The water makes for a nice leading line to the colorful sky.
Woke up early to be by Lake Superior for the sunrise. Well worth giving up some sleep.
Cold morning air meets the slightly warmer water of Lake Superior.
