When I passed this location, I stopped, moved back and forth knowing there was a composition to be captured. I finally opted for a viewpoint that showed a jumble of lines and shapes. Also, I think the two posts in front create a bit of tension but, they do then lead the eye into the image to discover the other shapes.
There, beyond the crystal-like barrier, lies another reality. A place of pine forests and broad leaf trees. A place where one can walk on solid ground without fear of slipping silently in to the dark water. Make it to the trees, there lies safety along the October Road.
What seemed like a perfectly normal place is transformed by a shift of perspective and a twist of the camera.
The west is filled with grand visions of grand vistas, mountains and beautiful coastal areas. But I also discovered that there are amazing tree shapes to be explored. Yes, there are plenty of trees that grow tall and straight, but in the high desert area, there are scrub trees that attain some of the most unusual shapes I have ever seen. This is just one example of the images I am working with from the area. This one is more root structure than what might be seen growing above ground, but it has obviously been worked on by time, water and air. This image is from my visit to Smith Rock State Park near Redmond, Oregon.
