This image could also have been better with a shorter exposure to bring out the detail in the flowing water.

Spring Flow #1
Canon EOS 5D Mark IV, Tamron SP 28-75mm F/2.8, ISO 50, f/11, 20 sec, 10 stop ND filter.
In hindsight, I think I could have gone with a lesser stop filter and shorter exposure to maintain more detail in the water.
Test Shot
Awhile back I invested in ND filters with the intention that I would begin to learn to use them properly. I’ve read, watched videos and studied other photographer’s work in preparation. I also added an app to my phone to help me determine the correct timing based on camera settings. After a couple of failed test shots, I managed to get one that gives me hope that with a bit more practice, I will be able to capture more shots using the filters.
Canon 5D S, Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8, 10 stop ND filter, ISO 50, 28mm, f/11, 91 sec. twiddled with in Lightroom, Silver Efex Pro 2 and Photoshop.
On The Rocks
Long exposure of water and a few rocks. I enjoy the simple peacefulness of the image.
After Dark
Recently, after hearing that there would be better than normal northern lights, I headed out to my chosen destination and set up for the show. Sadly, it turns out the show started after I gave up and went home; however, I at least tried to capture some night sky shots, something I haven’t done much of. The results are a good starting point to help me learn how to do better in the future and how to improve my post production. One lesson is to not pick a very windy night as it leads to camera shake on the tripod. Next time I will not extend the tripod all the way open, keeping more rigid and close to the ground.
Misty Rocks
Wave action on a group of rock at the end of the south pier, Duluth entry, Canal Park.
ISO 50, 28mm, f/13, 1.6 sec, small adjustments in Adobe Lightroom and finished in Silver Efex Pro 2
Taconite Plant
Taken in Silver Bay, Minnesota along the north shore of Lake Superior.
ISO 100, 75mm, f/11, 30 sec.
Industrial Long Exposure
Another outing to perfect my long exposure settings. This image was taken with a solar filter that I used for photographing the eclipse last year.
ISO 100, 200 mm, f/11, 60 sec
Long Exposure
I’m working on getting an image for an upcoming photo submission that needs to be a long exposure. This is not quite what I was hoping for, but it’s a good start.
