Awareness

On September 16th and 17th, the Aerial Lift Bridge in Duluth was lit in blue for Ovarian Cancer Awareness.  The full moon also got in to the act, rising up over Lake Superior and adding it’s warm glow to the surface of the lake.  And, for good measure, you have to have a ship coming under the bridge.

All Quiet On The Waterfront

The ships are gone, the crowds are gone and the harbor is back to a less chaotic state of being.  The Tall Ships Festival was amazing, the number of people that attended was staggering and the ships beautiful.  But it’s nice to have things a bit quieter, more peaceful and less crowded.

Strange Sky

Interesting cloud formations that come with changing weather around Lake Superior.

Strange Lights in the Night Sky

On a recent night when I expected to see the aurora lighting up the skies over Duluth, I got a surprise.  Rather than seeing the northern lights, I captured this unique image, for which I have no explanation.  I took many shots that night, but only this one has what appears to be lights in the sky over the Blatnik Bridge and the harbor.  Other than cropping the image, doing a bit of sharpening and noise reduction, I’ve done no other editing.

My Corner Office

I have finished my week of training as a Minnesota Slip Bridge operator and am now prepared to spend many hours this summer on duty with the bridge and near the water.  I’ve discovered that all the activities going on around the bridge can be very distracting and that one never takes their eyes off the bridge when it’s in operation.  Other than that, I’m looking forward to an exciting several months hanging out at the harbor.  After all, I’ve got a view from my office that’s hard to beat.
