Tall Ships at Sunrise

default

The tall ships have returned after being absent due to the damnpenic. Paddling Out to Greet the Sunrise

Three paddle boarders were taking advantage of the calm morning to make their way out to Lake Superior to watch the sunrise.

Waiting For the Sun

Image

A sunrise drone flight looking out through the Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge. After checking PhotoPills, I should be able to return here in August to capture the sunrise centered between the piers.

In The Gorge

Morning light accenting the ice coated gorge along the shore of Lake Superior. Image captured with a drone. (No way I was going to climb down to get the shot!)

Divided by Water

Image

Far from any developed area I discovered a series of human made drainage channels. I have no idea why they were created or what purpose they serve, but it does make for an intriguing image with the waterway dividing the autumn colors.

Into the Chasm

I wanted to capture the view from the chasm in the rocks but, to do so would require me to go in the frigid waters of Lake Superior. My solution: use my drone to get down and shoot from about three feet above the water. The water makes for a nice leading line to the colorful sky.

Welcome to Duluth!

A view of the entrance to the Duluth harbor. Ships from all over the Great Lakes and the world visit the port every year.
