July Sky

July skies in the northland are often changing as quickly as the weather changes.  A nice day by Lake Superior can turn on you in a heartbeat.  Within minutes, the temperature can drop by 20 or more degrees as the wind shifts around from the east off the lake.  Even on an eighty degree day you need to keep a jacket handy for such occasions.

Schwann’s USA Cup Soccer Tournament

This week I am in Blaine, Minnesota with camera in hand capturing the action at what is billed as the largest youth soccer tournament in the western hemisphere.  Teams from Minnesota, the United Sates and all over the world converge on this location for competition, fun, pin trading and a chance to learn about our beautiful state.  As usual, we are having some of our hottest weather of the summer during the event.  But the action goes on and everyone is having a blast.

Staying Focused

While wandering around on Artist Point in Grand Marais I came upon a pile of rocks that had, at one time, been an inukshuk.  Whether natural or human, it was now just a loose grouping of interestingly shaped rocks that were begging to be worked with.  I was happy to oblige.
