During our hikes on the trails above our home in Duluth, my wife and I have been aware of a large rock outcropping that looked appealing and in need of exploration. This past Sunday the weather was perfect and so we made it the destination of the day. We parked in the lot off Haines Road and followed the bike trail along the hillside, then cut over to another trail that appeared to be the path upward. Although the trail was steep at times, for the most part it was not a difficult climb and it wasn’t long before we reached the summit. At the top we were rewarded with a wide vista of the St. Louis River, the harbor and bridges and Lake Superior. The wind was off the lake and clouds were moving briskly from the lake and traveling inland adding a dynamic touch to the scene.
